Passports and Visas

International visitors to Australia must possess a valid passport and, in most cases, a visa to enter the country. Travellers can apply for various types of visas, depending on nationality and purpose of visit. It is recommended to apply well in advance.

Please contact your local embassy or the Australian Embassy in your country, to confirm the required documents and the correct type of visa

Government Travel Advice

Before travelling, check the latest travel advice issued by your country’s government. Australian authorities also provide updates for incoming visitors, including health and safety alerts and entry requirements.

Customs Information

Australia has strict biosecurity laws. Travellers must declare all food, plant material, and animal products on arrival. There are also limits on alcohol, tobacco, and cash. Failing to declare prohibited items can result in fines or prosecution.

Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended for all visitors. It should cover medical expenses, personal liability, lost or stolen belongings, and disruptions to travel plans. Australia’s public health system does not cover overseas visitors except for certain reciprocal agreements.

Vaccination Requirements

No specific vaccinations are required for entry into Australia, but it’s advisable to be up to date with routine immunisations. Travellers arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever must present a vaccination certificate.

Airport Transfer Options

Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) is located about 8km from the city centre. Transport options include:

  • Train: Airport Link trains connect the airport to the city in about 15 minutes.
  • Taxi and Rideshare: Taxis and rideshare services such as Uber, Ola, and DiDi are available at all terminals.
  • Shuttle Buses: Various door-to-door shuttle services operate between the airport and hotels.
  • Public Buses: Several public bus routes stop at the airport.

Money

Australia’s currency is the Australian Dollar (AUD). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, and contactless payments are common. ATMs are plentiful, and currency exchange services are available at the airport and throughout Sydney. Tipping is appreciated but not expected.

Electricity Supply

Australia uses a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz frequency. The plug type is I (three flat pins in a triangular pattern). Visitors from other regions will need an appropriate plug adapter and, if necessary, a voltage converter.

Weather

November in Sydney is late spring, offering pleasant and mild weather. Average daytime temperatures range from 15°C to 24°C. Rain is possible, so packing a light jacket or umbrella is advised. The UV index can be high, so sun protection is recommended.

Personal Safety

Sydney is considered a safe city for visitors. Usual precautions should be taken, especially in crowded areas and at night. Emergency services can be reached by dialling 000. Beachgoers should swim at patrolled beaches and follow lifesavers’ directions.
